Another week at home comes and goes, but our students and schools show they continue to find new ways to adapt and stay connected. Social media and video calling technologies continue to allow us to keep face to face contact, and allow teachers and students to engage on an ongoing basis.
The beginning of May celebrated teachers and principals. Principal Appreciation Day was May 1, and Teacher Appreciation Week lasted May 4 through May 8. Students, parents and teachers took to Facebook to show their appreciation for the principals that lead their school communities. Christ the King School and St. George School both created picture collages to show their appreciation for their respective principals. St. Monica School rallied families to ride by principal Sister Regina Matulka showing their appreciation. Additionally, we want to thank all the teachers who continue to give their heart and soul to their jobs during the COVID-19 crisis.
As we continue through May, it’s strange to think many students cannot receive their First Holy Communion at their Parish. Some schools and Parish communities, like SS Simion and Jude School turned to Zoom. Students dressed up in their communion dresses and suits to celebrate the special moment together, while remaining apart.
Teachers and students continue to stay busy with their curriculum and stay busy with various activities. Teachers use Zoom to not only teach their classes, but to also meet with students and parents one-on-one to follow up with how they’re doing at home. Students celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up their yard and planting flowers. Be sure to tell Christ The King School how you stay busy and find new ways to make distance learning more fun!
Be sure to read through the newsletter sent each week by the Office for Catholic Education Taskforce to see how other schools are making the best of this truly unprecedented time.
