As Congress works on a new stimulus bill, the White House intends to section off funds for scholarship programs specifically for private and religious schools. The COVID-19 continues to affect us all, including families who choose to enroll their children in non-public schools.
The president will ask for a “one-time, emergency appropriation” that will detail these grants would benefit families hurt financially by the pandemic and need help paying tuition for their children’s education. Parents have the right to send their children to schools that serve their needs, and these kinds of grants in the next stimulus bills to provide help to these families.
The White House aims to have “10% of the amount that Congress approves for state and local educational agencies set aside for the grants.” At the same time, Trump will also ask for the approval of $5 billion in federal tax credits for individuals and businesses donating to these scholarship and grant programs.
Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that any private school that meets their state’s educational standards is now eligible to receive public scholarship funds. This planned addition to the next stimulus bill will further help our school community at Christ the King School through COVID-19, which has already affected our schools in drastic ways.
