BYOD programs have been used successfully in thousands of schools around the country. The term BYOD refers to Bring Your Own Device. CTK is in the forefront in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia using BYOD technology. The BYOD Program began at CTK in 2013 in Grades 5 through 8 and continues to be successful in its mission.
There has been a major shift in education in recent years toward digital content such as electronic textbooks (which we have with our 7th/8th grade SS/SC programs), educational videos, libraries, databases and websites. The combination of student devices with digital content makes learning more interactive, personalized and mobile. Students are learning 21st century skills – such as research strategies, problem-solving, and collaboration and creativity.
A mobile learning classroom changes the teacher’s role significantly. Rather than standing up in front of the classroom and transmitting information, the students do a lot of learning on their own with the guidance of the teacher. The teacher’s job becomes that of facilitator – monitoring progress and making sure students are on task.
As technology changes and improves, almost on a daily basis, Christ the King School will continue to develop its Technology program for our students. We recognize the critical importance technology plays in teaching future citizens and leaders.
