This year is a very important year for Second Graders. This year the children will be making the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. I am very excited about the upcoming year and all of the great things that are to come.

Supplies
Please be sure that your child is prepared for each school day. Please see the Supply List for the things that your child will need throughout the year. Each child should have pencils, scissors, glue, and
crayons, in addition to books, folders, and homework. Please label your child's belongings with their name and room number. Also, it is important to cover your child's workbooks and copybooks in clear contact paper any time new books are given out. I strongly recommend that you take advantage of
the back to school sales and stock up on things like glue sticks, crayons, scissors, red pencils, and folders.
Arrival/Dismisssal
Children should arrive no earlier than 7:45 am. The children should report to the school hall each morning. Please allow your child to enter the school building and classroom on their own. It is important for them to be independent. The morning bell rings at 7:55.
Our lunch period is from 11:55 pm to 12:35 pm.
Monday through Friday, the dismissal bell is at 2:35 pm. If an emergency dismissal should occur, please
listen to KYW. Emergency dismissal forms will be given out. Each child must have one on file.
Lines
Children will be dismissed in one of four lines: Car, North Chesterfield, South Chesterfield, or After Care. It is important to notify me any time your child's line should change. This is for your child's safety. Also, if you are picking your child up in a car, you are to do so by waiting in the parking lot. Please do not pick your child up in a car on the street. Again, this is for safety reasons.
Uniforms
Children should be dressed in the uniforms as described in the school guidelines. Please keep your child's uniforms up to date throughout the year. The proper gym uniform should be worn only on the designated gym day.
*** Please no nail polish or large jewelry.
Notes/Money
If you have any questions or concerns, please write me a note and send it in with your child. I am happy to make evening phone calls or set up an appointment to meet in person. You can also email me with your
questions and concerns. I will always do my best to reply to any correspondence as promptly as possible. In addition, I really cannot leave a class to speak with a parent at any time. I will be happy to set up a
time to meet or talk with you!
Please send ANY and ALL money in a marked envelope with your child's name and what the money is for.
Change of Address or Phone Number
Please notify your child's teacher and the school office if there is any change in address or phone number.
Yes/No Papers
Yes/No papers will be sent home throughout the year. Please do not feel obligated to purchase anything. Please fill out the form, check yes or no, and return to school. I will receive points for classroom materials and prizes the more returns I receive. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Recess/Lunch
Each child should have a snack and lunch for each school day. Please send in a dish towel to cover your child's desk every day. Be sure to pack spoons, forks, straws, napkins, etc. No soda or canned drinks are
permitted in the classroom.
Special lunches are Monday through Thursdays. Order forms can be found on the school website. These forms are due around the 15th of each month for the next month's order. (Example: October's order will be due September 15th)
*** Please do not send in lunches that need to be microwaved.
Special Classes
We have many special classes at CTK! Here is a list of each subject, the day Room 10 attends, and the teacher's name. Please see Class Schedule for times.
Library ~ Mrs. Love
Computers ~ Mr. Kusmieder
Art ~ Mrs. Snyder
Phys. Ed. ~ Mrs. McDevitt
Homework
Homework is given each night and is expected to be fully completed for school the next day. Please sign your child's homework each night so that I know that you have seen it. Your child's homework will copied and completed in their Homework copybook. Please see the Homework link on my webpage.
Folders
Each child should have 4 folders for the school year.
Test folder
Working folder
Test taking folder
Writing Portfolio
I suggest purchasing two extra folders in the beginning of the year. The working folder and test taking folder are kept in the children's desks and can often get pretty beat up halfway through the school year.
Tests, Quizzes, and Grades
There is a Math test almost every other week. Spelling tests will be given every other Friday consisting of 20 words. All other tests will be announced at least three days in advance. Most Religion and ELA tests
are usually fill-in-the-blank with words banks, multiple choice, and true and false.
Rules
Student of the Week
Each child will have the opportunity to be "The Student of the Week". I will choose the order randomly and I will let you know in advance when it will be your child's week and will do my best to remind
them the Friday before. Each day will have a special activity.
Monday: Sharing Sack (Also, the children can bring in pictures and complete a
special poster to be displayed in the classroom)
Tuesday: Parent Letter.
Wednesday: Read a story or poem to the class.
Thursday: Eat lunch with a friend
Friday: Compliment book
Extra Reminders
Keep supplies updated.
Make sure your child's name is on any of their belongings. (gym uniforms, lunch boxes, umbrellas, etc.)
Send all money in a marked envelope with your child's name on it.
Please provide an absent note whenever your child misses school.
Make sure your child knows what dismissal line they are to go in. If there is ever a day that they should go in another line, please send a note letting me know that. Otherwise, we cannot send them in another line. This is for your child's safety!!
Please inform me of any allergies, medications, illnesses, restrictions, that your child may have so that I can accommodate them.
In Conclusion
We plan to have a lot of fun this year. In order to accomplish this goal, all rules must be followed on a regular basis. Again, if there is anything you feel I should know that will help me understand and relate to
your child, please let me know.
