After School Program
Information will be supplied upon request. The After School Program runs from the first to the last full week of school, even on half days. Please fill out a form, even if you don't plan to use the program. You can always notify me by note or call the Business Office if you need unexpected child-care. If the Diocese calls an early dismissal, our After School Program remains open.
Arrival
Children must be in the school yard by 7:50 AM.
Attendance
Any child who is absent or late for school must have a note of explanation from a parent. Problems concerning absence for unusual or long-term reasons should be discussed with the Principal and teacher. Parents must call school when a child is absent. (215-632-1161 answering machine) A note must accompany the child when he/she returns to school.
Backpack
A sturdy backpack with proper identification will be needed by every child to carry home necessary communications as well as treasures created in the classroom. Please be sure it is large enough to hold a large folder and copybook.
Please remember to send your child to school every day with their school bag, lunch box with dish towel, and Business Folder.
PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING with your child's name, including books, lunch boxes, school bags, sweatshirts, and sweaters.
Book Clubs
Papers are sent home for your convenience. This is a great way to encourage your child to read. They love to receive "book presents" from you at school. Please make all checks out to the book club company. The price is right from the book companies!
Yes/No Papers
Please fill out and return to school. I receive free classroom materials for these papers. You do not have to buy anything. Just say no and sign your name.
Birthday Celebrations
Celebrations may be enjoyed by all in our classroom. Please let me know the day before you send in a treat. Munchkins, stickers, party favor toys, and cookies are some good suggestions. Treats do not have to be edible. This is OPTIONAL.
"Business" Folder
Your child's "B" or Business Folder is the communication source between home and school. All communication from school will come home in the business folder. Any notes or money you need to send to school, please put in an envelope and label it and place it in the business folder. Please make sure you check this folder every day.
Calendar
Please follow Christ the King School calendar as well as our weekly Newsletters for early dismissals, holidays and special events.
Communication
Communication between parents and teacher about their child's progress is extremely important. There will be one formal scheduled conference, and opportunity for informal meetings as the need arises. Parents should feel free to contact me by letter or e-mail to request an informal after school meeting.
A newsletter will be posted on my website each week to keep you informed about classroom procedures.
Discipline
Preschool is a time where children are learning to be social and to interact with one another. It is also time to follow rules and directions. In Preschool we will use a "time-out" chair. I will also use the red, yellow and green light system. Your child will have a calendar on the back of their business folder which will indicate what color they were on for the day. (Red=3 or more warnings: tough day, yellow = 2 warnings: half and half day, green =great day).
Dismissal Lines
Monday - Friday 2:35 PM
All children are dismissed in one of the following lines:
Car Line - This is anyone riding home in a car. All cars must line up in rows in the school yard. A teacher will direct traffic out of the school yard when all the car line students have been dismissed from the building.
Walkers - If you will be picking your child up and walking home, please wait for your child on the church steps, and they will be brought out the front door of school closest to the church.
After School Program - if your child will be staying in Aftercare at the close of the school day, they will be brought up to the Aftercare room on the 2nd floor of the school building by a teacher. Please notify school if there is a change in your child's line.
Lunch Fee
A Lunch Fee is required for any child staying for lunch. A special Lunch Form will be given to you from the main office. This is different from the hot lunch orders.
Questions
If you have any questions for me please do not hesitate to ask. You can send in a note or email. Please understand that the morning is a hectic time and I am attending to the children; therefore, it is difficult for me to talk to parents in the morning.
Recess and Lunch
Please make sure your child has a dishtowel to cover his or her desk. Remember to pack straws, forks, or spoons. Water is a good drink during the warm weather. No soda is permitted. Keep snacks low sugar. Fruit, cheese, crackers, pretzels, and yogurt are great-we love healthy snacks! Be sure your child is able to handle the containers you pack.
Snow Days
Please listen to KYW for school closings.
Special Lunches
Special lunches are on Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday is always pizza lunch. The Thursday lunch varies each week. Some possible choices are hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, and chicken nuggets. Lunch forms can be found on the school website for the following month telling you the type of lunch and cost.
*** Be sure your child can handle the thermos or juice cartons he/she brings to class. The best are the thermoses with the flip top drinking straw or the plastic bottles with the flip top straw. Your child should have enough to drink for both snack and lunch.
